Academic getaways

It's that time again ... English camp for Uni students coming up next week.  This year we are taking the Education major students to Saraburi for 3 days.  Unexplored territory for me.  Last year we went to Tak Province and had a good time, and we are hoping for more of the same in Saraburi.

The camps are great to break the monotony of classroom teaching for students and teachers, and it gives us all an opportunity to  act and interact in a fun and relaxed environment.  We encourage the students to make new friends through mixed group activities, and also to interact with the teachers on a casual basis.  All in all, a win-win situation for everyone.

We play games that focus on particular English skills, we do short "classes" under the trees or wherever we find a spot, we eat, we swim if a pool is available, and then after dinner together, we spend the evenings relaxing in our various accomodations.  Students usually spend the 2 nights in a dormitory type of accomodation, while the teachers are accomodated in 2 sleeper bungalows or chalets or rooms - depending on the resort.

We will be leaving at 6am on Wednesday morning, and should arrive at about 11am - many stops along the way for ablutions and snacks.  Students will be travelling by bus as usual, and the teachers in a mini-van.  This is good .... imagine all the noise in the bus!!!

Each province has its own regional "product", so the trip back usually involves a few stops to buy something local.  On Friday, we will leave after lunch, visit at least one of the numerous waterfalls, hopefully stop at the Sunflower fields, do the mandatory stops, and head back to NS to arrive at around 6pm.
